Ecological.
I aim to make my business as ecologically sound as I can.
Photography has the power to influence people massively. The picture the American astronauts took from their Apollo craft, looking back at the Earth was perhaps the most influential photo ever taken in terms of green awareness. It highlighted to the world that we are all living on a finite planet.
I reuse and reclaim materials such as wood and paper.
I use recycled goods where-ever possible.
I power my camera, PC and printer with solar power.
I don't buy goods that are not ecologically sound - i.e.. goods with lots of packaging.
I buy locally where-ever possible. Goods made locally tend to have less packaging and haven't been transported as far.
There are areas though where I still struggle. Photographic paper, both traditional and inkjet is bleached and covered in chemicals and despite searching there doesn't seem to be a supplier of recycled paper for photographic use (please get in touch if you know of a supplier). I have to get around too, running a vehicle isn't green and biodiesel is still frowned upon by the Ministry of Transport and Customs. Recycling in Britain and Cornwall is poor, and the authorities do not have the facilities that exist in other parts of Europe
As time moves on, and new products become available, I will be able to run this business more ecologically. I hope to pioneer green awareness in photography where I can. One of the most important tools to me though are the photographs themselves, which I hope will open peoples eyes just a little more to the beauty of this planet.
